Default Moving a car

My Son has bought a car from the bay, it is about 200 miles from home. He needs to get it back but of course is not taxed. I can get a days car insurance but this does not get around the lack of tax and with the distance probably to far to take a chance. He wont be using it for a couple of months so seem crazy to tax it for one trip especially as it is high tax group.

All the companies I have rung or contacted want over £250 to collect it and wont be able to do it for a few weeks.

Is there another option or do I just need to shell out the cash to either tax it or get it brought back?

Tax it, drive it back then cancel the tax, I have done this a few times and if you cancel it on the same day as you tax it they never claim the fee!

You could tax it & then SORN it, and get a refund on the balance. That would cost one months road tax if you don't cross over two calendar months.

how much is one months tax? You would struggle to do it cheaper unless you go Trikeys way... neat trick and worth remembering

The problem I have the train fair to get there is £81, the fuel to drive it back is another £60ish. Can I get road tax insuring a car for a day?

Yes, if you tax at a Post Office, the insurance is not now checked. Just taxed my classic car & then realised it wasn't insured!

Book it in for a MOT at you local friendly place. Can drive to a pre booked appointment with no tax.

Cool

Contact SonicZS aka Paul Collins. He transports cars for a living. I can highly recommend him.
