Default Something had to happen..

Went to start the car this morning dash lights came on no problem, turned key to start, everything died, now the remote locking/unlocking isn't working but everything else is.

Remote codes are showing on BCU with the ones in the fobs, if only one fob failed I'd say it was that but both at the same time after the car just went dead says to me something else.

Its an 03 so know the remote module is behind the dash (thank god compared to pre 2001 in the centre console), could that of been fried or something?

Anyone else had this happen?

Plenum is dry, no junk in it so pretty sure its not a swimming ecu.

Also battery is new so not that.

Hi Simon.
When say everything died, do you mean that turning the key you get nowt, no lights flicking on and off, no carking of the engine, no single click ?

Manual or Auto if Auto is it in P.

Could be starter motor contacts & plunger.

Let us know about the questions asked

put key to position 2 all lights came on, to position 3 all lights went out no crank, nothing showing on any display. Key back to position 2, still nothing. Turned off car and removed key, tried again and no lights or anything.

Its not a dodgy remote fob as I have 2 keys. Checked battery connection under the bonnet all looked good and battery tester showed good battery as its new (less than a month old).

Tried central locking button on centre console after trying remote and it don't respond now either.

After testing the battery the car started but this is when the central locking stopped working.

Central locking on key in door only responding on drivers side, have to manually lock and unlock passenger side and deadlock not working.

So I'm thinking maybe a short between remote sensor, bcu and wiring to left hand side.

This wouldn't stop the central locking remote working and kill the passenger side door motors on both lock and deadlock.

You'd have to be having a really bad day for both to stop working at exactly the same time.

Have you tried a reset? Disconnect the battery for half an hour then reconnect. This generally clears any faults. Also make sure your battery is in good condition. As a start this is worth a try.

In this order check the fuses under the glovebox.......numbers 32 and 36.

They are both 5A, don't ask why I know, but my car did the same this evening !!

Fuse 32 is third from right and five rows down from the top, and 36 is third from right top row.
