I don't think it's worth the perseverance - far more useful as a parts donor to keep other cars on the road.
Recently I mot'd the V6 - what a farce - failed on an offside drop link and handbrake too many clicks. The handbrake had less play in it than my 1.8t and they passed that - and the drop link was like new. I handed the replaced item to the tester and his face was a picture - I left him muttering about putting the wrong side down on the fail sheet, equally worrying as there are no rattles whatsoever from any suspension component.

As for advisories, apparently my mint front discs which at best have a barely detectable wear lip are showing signs of wear but not excessively so. A pointless comment - after 10 miles out of the box discs will show signs of wear, it's what happens when braking. So really the tester is advising me that my brakes are working.

Amongst other sundry items.

So my point is that advisories is rather a vague area and should be regarded with some caution and can in some circumstances make a car look in a bad light.

Testers don't expect owners generally to be very knowledgeable about their cars but an older one that's clearly cared for should be a clue.

I won't be using them again.

What many don't realise is that the DVLA monitors testing stations and if the statistics don't match the average then they get inspected. If they then find anything amiss then the tester is suspended.

So I'm never surprised to get an advisory or two even if I know there's nothing wrong.
