Whilst I agree it is high, any government would have to obtain replacement revenue from somewhere else to maintain status quo or else CUT expenditure. Where?

My driving has changed, I drive slower, probably accelerate slower and without doubt try to combine journeys. I have been surprised how may miles I am doing.

I thought about it for about a second, And decided it was not for me. And with the predicted power cuts and increase in electricity prices confirmed that I was right.

If you look at inflation over the years today for example 3 star would be around £2.45 a gallon

Just shows how taxation has increased massively over the years that and how much we're being taken overcharged

Exactly. The duties are the cause of the over inflated costs. the

chancellor is reaping in the cash in with these prices. yes its gone up in price per barrel but the rest is all revenues. up to 70% is not a joke.no wonder he can give you a little of your money back in a VAT. reduction. ...

With the additional revenue the Chancellor is (hopefully) using some of it pay off the debt. He could of course reduce the taxes on it but see the debt increase.

He's dammed if he does and dammed if he doesn't.

I'm sure his potential replacements (as well as his critics) have all the answers.

I’ve thought for some years that the long suffering population are nothing other than a source of income for business.

All that matters is that the public purse grows to meet with the expenditure required for ensuring our rulers continue to live in the style to which they are accustomed. In other words, we pay and they play.

The very recent massive jump in the cost of everything is merely a reset until the next one, with the current blame being stitched onto Covid. Can’t wait for the next con job. Not that I’m a cynic of course.
