You presume quite wrongly! My posts of that time are still available on here!

Anyway, the EU collectively and in accordance with their rules voted en masse and did everything they possibly could, by a variety of dodgy means, to sink that particular ship with all hands!

That was possibly the biggest referendum there has ever been considering the numbers involved, together with the EU's visceral hatred on show. Not for the people in the UK, rather the brass neck of the UK trying to determine its own future - arrived at by yet another referendum that was decisive. To quote the EU as a comparator and to sneer at earlier events is neither relevant nor helpful!

On point:
What affects Scotland has much the same effect on rUK in this cause. Why would we want to leave the outcome, that affects us all, to a tiny minority of what is in reality an untrustworthy cabal of opportunistic zealots in search of a perceived immortality? Patriotism is a proud flag in a modern age but, certainly in this case, a false one.
agreed ! the brexit referendum could have gone either way. the result suited me , but could have been thwarted by others. So its only correct in my view that the choice is maintained for both sides. Spot on wraymond . ..

There is a choice - English voters, especially the Midlanders, can ask for a vote to take England out of the union. Of course, Scotland may ask for repayment of oil revenues and Wales payment for its rainwater!

I think you will find Leicester a very poor place without the financial support of the Scottish, the Welsh and of course the south and the east!

Oh , come and live in the real world of peasant underdog class !! its free to join and membership here in leicester is usually a lifetime commitment. once enrolled lt is very difficult to leave. its so highly populated here , you dont stand much chance of finding an empty flat to rent ... let alone a job . Lived here 73 yrs and did at one point rise above scum level to start, run , and own my own engineering business and a decent house and employ 14 people. Alas a 33 yr marriage divorce put paid to all that. ... starting again in your 50"s is always going to be a dead end. Suppose i should have gone down to the south east as soon as i was able to walk and talk..... maybe better opportunities could have opened up .. or maybe not ... whatever hard work you put in , you still have to be in the right place at the right time , and have a degree of good fortune in life. ....

No.

Never had, what I see, the overwhelming urge to drink alcohol of any description. Not least any brand of whisky. Alcoho, in its broadest sense, is something that has never agreed with me and I my well be allergic to it.

In the interests of balance, Scotland is not the only place in these blessed North Atlantic islands that can produce the goods.

I'm blessed with a wee fellow son-in-law who just happens to be very Irish. He and my daughter presented me with a handsome flagon of Shanky's Whip Black Liqueur and Whiskey blend for Fathers' Day. It's a big bottle, apparently not to be consumed by those of a nervous disposition.

This might be my last post, not literally of course, for some time. I'm told to drink it all before I eventually get my licence back. Well before.

A light note on the question I was in Gibralter a few years ago and a gentleman was seating in the sunshine enjoying the sunshine on Rosia Bay. I joined him and as is usual with many my conversation gambit was of the lovely weather. He agreed and then related his reason for being there (Gib) in broad Scots " I was in Glasgow years ago and my moustache had ice on it one morning, thats why Im here" This is how we ended up with a Empire of a quarter of the globe, maybe??Chris.S

im sure scotland would need to revamp its military situation. Being not far away from mr putins Finland controlled arctic areas. those waters and ports control the back doors to landlock the north of russia. A lifeline for them. During the second world war these routes were key to russian resistance of german success. im sure the UK would not want to give up strategic bases there. Has Nicola told the kremlin that they will join Nato ? or remain neutral ? Rejoining the E.U might be acceptable to mr putin at the moment .. until Mr macron gets his E.U military army alliance up and running... so many things will be up in the air and probably will never be resolved. leaving the union will hit people in scotland , and the whole of the UK. dramatic consequences lie ahead for all i believe which will take generations even to partly resolve. Pensions ? Hard border ? UK citizenship / passports and scots right to live in the UK and vise versa after independence , for those born after this date. With all these things going on , even if the referendum proves a yes vote to leave the UK she may not be here to see it . im sure the R.O.I will be watching very closely and waiting for their chance to achieve. ..

Sturgeon assumes that the EU will have her. Catalan who broke away from Spain has been unsuccessful.

If she thinks Westminster is remote to her, wait until she starts dealing with the EU.
