Thanks for the feedback. I've done quite a few jobs so far on the beast, including rebuilding and refitting the high pressure diesel pump - long job and no knuckles left at the end but satisfying nonetheless. I've also replaced both rear back plates, requiring a fair bit of hacksawing to free up the handbrake cables, but the kits provided by DMGRS were pretty complete and offered an nice complete solution. Also changed rear hubs, with the aid of an angle grinder for ceased inner races, rear coil springs and generally done basic servicing.

Never tackled a clutch, but just read up the procedure for changing the master cylinder and if I use the original pipes and the part supplied by DMGRS I should be able to replace that pretty quickly and see if once bled that this does the trick.
Your point about separating the self sealing joint under the battery is a good one to determine if the slave is at fault, but given there is a weep from the master cylinder on first inspection, I may as well just get on and change that anyway given the fact it is already on its way out.

Fortunately we have another car to bob about in so not in a great rush.

Thanks again for all your inputs which are pretty informative.

Regards Larry

With clutch pedal to the floor, always worth checking the fluid level in the master. If this is not low then it could be that an internal seal in the master has failed and clutch fluid is remaining in the master.

It looks like Larry has jumped across from a different thread.

Ok - installed new Borg & Beck, clutch, slave cylinder master cylinder and new guide tube as supplied by DMGRS. Long job with help, and replaced gearbox oil in the process.
Clutch good and biting well, but unfortunately on first test drive it is leaking gearbox oil.
Any ideas why that should be the case?
Also have black oil deposits under the area where the alternator sits.
Obvious can't drive her at the moment in case gear box ceases.
Would really like to get this all sorted

Where is it leaking from?
Driveshaft oil seal? If it was replaced has the new one been fitted all the way home and squarely?

As post 15 above. Drive shaft seal. Shaft not fully home or seal damaged during clutch change.

Thanks for the feedback - come to think of it, the offside drive shaft proved difficult to put back and could well have had the seal damaged.

Looked on DMGRS web site, but couldn't see any reference to a drive shaft seal.
Anybody have a suitable link to order a replacement seal?

Regards Larry

I have just fitted an o/s driveshaft seal from dmgrs. I telephoned dmgrs and the standard post in reality arrive the next day the seal was £13.99p plus postage (as a part of a larger order).

As in other comments in this thread I also found once taking bits off underneath the car I found many parts needed replacing.

Ed, When replacing the driveshaft seal, did you completely remove the driveshaft from the car, or did you leave the shaft connected at the hub end?
Was it easy to remove the seal, and was it obvious that the existing seal was damaged when looking at it?
