Choosing a New Compressor [1.8 Non-Turbo]
Hello Chaps,
I've determined that my A/C compressor needs replacing and I'm looking around to buy it, Rimmer Bros do it at their usual liberal prices, I just wondered if any of the after-market ones are as good and are they a straight swap? Last edited by JefferiesFarnol; 17th July 2022 at 18:40.. |

I have quite a few here in East Kent, I hadn't really considered second hand as I thought going to the effort of changing it, I'd rather know for certain it was in good order. I'll have a look around, maybe there will be some reconditioned. Last edited by JefferiesFarnol; 18th July 2022 at 17:53.. |

We do have these available - but unfortunately they're quite expensive (although less than some other sources, admittedly).

Hello Hector,
From your June thread ... Quote:

What you want to avoid under any circumstances is buying and fitting a new compressor then finding that it isn't responsible. Whatever the outcome, why not let the mobile specialist supply the parts and do the work for you? Simon

Hello Simon, I did call him out again, and he agreed with what I supposed it to be and when he went to discharge the system he said that there just wasn't any gas left. My radiator is leaking at the moment and I already have a new one to replace it with so I am going to kill two birds with one stone and replace both at the same time and then call him out again to do a recharge when fingers crossed it will be fixed! I've looked into the process and I believe I can do it, I'm replacing the dryer and auxilliary drivebelt at the same time as recommended and if there's any problem which I don't anticipate, I have a spare car I can drive while I wait for my A/C man to come out to give me a hand. |

OK, thanks for the update Hector. Just one thing; if your 1.8 is anything like my V6, the drier is integral with the condenser which you've recently renewed anyway.
Simon

Yes I think it is. I thought about leaving it, as you say I've just had the condenser changed and I think I probably could do but since I'm exposing the system to the air again and I'm already spending a fair amount on parts, I just thought 'in for a penny, in for a pound.' Thanks for you interest and helpful advice, I'll be sure to do an update to let you know how it goes! |

Sometimes compressor warranty is void if you don't fit dryer
