I've always had an A/C Service (pump down, regas and I believe a bit of PAG46 oil added back in too) in the hope this will avoid a compressor failure.
Make sure the place that gasses the system up adds the correct amount of PAG46 oil - the Denso compressors fitted to our cars use around 120ml from memory.

We do of course have the various bits and pieces if needed - the 'boss' has just done a deal to stock all 4 types of compressor from 1.8 through to V8 which is handy (for me, as my ZS180 needs one as used by all KV6 applications).

I can't help wondering why your compressor should have seized. Insufficient oil in the refrigerant maybe? Do please let us know what you find.

I'm assuming that you're talking about the radiator fan Dave. The fast speed on a 3 speed motor is triggered only by coolant temperature not the air conditioning. Have a look at the digital coolant temperature display to check that all is well.

Simon
Hi Simon. The fan is not just triggered by coolant temperature, I think you will find it is also triggered when you put the air con on also. It comes on to cool the air-con gas, so that it changes back into a liquid. That is why the condenser is mounted in front of the water radiator, so it gets the full force of the blast of air from the fan, and is not warmed by the hot water in the water radiator. I think that is correct? The water temperature when the fan was trying to take off was ok, normal 88/89 degrees. I have just put the diesel back on the road and I think that the diesel is a much better car than the V6. Lots of gadgets on the V6, my wife misses the leather seats because they are that little bit higher for her to get in, but she say’s that she also thinks the diesel is a better car. Already noticed the difference in what I am spending on fuel.

Yes it is Dave.

OK thanks. My post was just to point out that what you heard must have been the medium (2nd) speed, not the top (3rd) speed, if it was triggered by the air conditioning. I'm surprised that it was loud enough to provoke your comment though. Usually it's the 2 speed motors which sound as if they're "trying to take off" when running at maximum.
