The cooler the water enters the boiler, the more heat it is able to take on from the boiler's flame, the more efficiently it will run. Condenser boilers work best, at low flow temperatures.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

........

I agree. The boiler will remain off - its most economical state.

Just had me DD reduction confirmed.

Funny enough I'm paying less than this time last year despite being on a more expensive tariff.

Ever since the energy companies have been compelled by the government into installing smart meters, I have received numerous letters from the electricity supplier, 'implying' that my meter is now 'dangerous', and therefore needs replacing.

It may not be coincidence, that before the government put pressure on the energy companies to install smart meters, my electricity meter was not described as 'dangerous'.
They use many different weasel words. But the intent to frighten is obvious.

Their latest trick is now they 'may' book a replacement, whether you want one or not. At the moment, one has the option to 'cancel'.
But mistakes can happen, and 'cancellations' can always be 'lost'.

There are truthful stories circulating that some smart meters are charging £40,000 a day for electricity. And if you're 'told' that smart meters can't make mistakes, ask the hundreds of postmasters who went to prison, because of known software faults

And that for the last two months, users of smart meters are 'unable' to access online details of their consumption, due to 'software difficulties'.

We ARE being lied to, about our existing meters being 'dangerous'.
The fact that smart meters are 'always' connected to the incoming mains, and consuming power, components ageing and slowly dying, makes smart meters more of a fire risk.
Components inside them do have a finite life. And the only protection is your 100A service fuse. You can generate an awful lot of fire before your 100A service fuse blows. You can't turn your smart meter off overnight, like the stories of 'vampire' devices encourage you to.

But smart meters 'do' allow the energy companies to remotely switch off your electricity supply, without reference to the courts, if you disagree with your bill for £40,000, and refuse to pay.

So, eventually, could a hacker. And not 'if', but 'when'.

You have been warned.
I understand that smart meters can be remotely switched from credit meters (when you pay your bills afterwards) into prepayment meters (forcing you to pay before you consume) if you refuse to pay your bill.

They are a real Trojan horse for the energy companies.

Who new? The meters are very smart. Sold on the back of blandishments about conservation, the planet and all that cobblers. I get uninvited mail every week from my supplier, despite never replying their letters.

They are a real Trojan horse for the energy companies.

The other side of the coin is that if someone refuses to pay their bill there are only two options which are just from the perspective of the suppliers and the customers who pay regularly and on time - change the payment method to pre-pay or cut off the electricity.

Food is an essential commodity but no one expects the supermarkets to supply food to non-paying members of the public. Why would anyone expect it from energy retail companies?

Unless of course we all do it.

Default I think...

The idea is to go back to monthly billing and not direct debit, the direct debit system gives them more control over consumers money, it also gives them any interest on that money they accrue by overcharging customers. A direct debit places total control of the amount they want in their hands, they can empty your bank account with their demands if they choose, it's time to stop them having that level of control.
