Default corona virus and getting an mot

what does this forum think is likely to happen with regard to mot's over the next few weeks?...so i have one for mid april...we could be in lockdown...but then not able to get about when lockdown is over because mot and insurance invalid....mot now?... regardless of losing a month maybe?.... Under the circumstances, are mechanics going to be happy crawling around the interior of a car?...do we want one crawling around inside ours?...just thinking outloud here...

Mine is due too, 8 April .. does it count as an essential journey? Will I be let off if I drive it after the due date? probably not

Perhaps take some disinfectant wipes for the steering wheel & gear knob before we drive it home

Just booked mine in for a couple of weeks time up here in Scotland. Guy at the garage said they were considered as key workers / essential service, so he didn't think they would close any time soon.............but things may alter.......

Earlier this morning I emailed DVSA on this matter.

Obviously, if the MOT runs out then the insurance is invalid. Things have to be put in place that there is some "cover" provided by Insurance companies if a postponement is accepted.

If I get a reply I will post the information on here.

For those saying insurance is invalid, I'm sorry but I am not convinced you are right.
You may have your fully comp downgraded to third party because the person you hit should not be out of pocket. The third party gets paid, you and your car, tough luck.

ANPR will flag no mot but it wont flag no insurance due to no mot

further more you sorn you vehicle, the mot runs out. You cant tax it due to no mot but you can insure it to drive to and from an mot testing station

+1 on the above. Insurance is not invalidated by not having an MOT. Lack of current MOT incurs a fine. Someone clarified in a different discussion these points.

If your car was unroadworthy then you will be done for it, no matter the status of the MOT.

I'll find the post.

Edit : Here's the post - https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...77&postcount=7. And it was Ian (macafee2) who asked the original question!

Difficult situation which needs to be resolved for those without a drive, or allocated parking place.
Believe that someone mentioned on TV that lorries would be given a 3 month period of grace - will be difficult to book a slot when and if things ever return to normal.

How about making sure its clean before the MOT test? I have told my boss that is any car comes in dirty i will refuse to test it.

We already wipe down the interior with disinfectant and use clean disposable gloves per car.

HGV Mot's have already stopped being done and MOT expiry dates extended.
