Default Front strut question 55 diesel tourer

Advisorie on last MOT N/S strut has a misting of oil on it, right the question, doing a search for struts every one I have come across states gas filled so are they just gas or gas and oil hense the misting of oil
Also many state the shock fits all models, different spring rates yes understand that, weight of engine etc. So do the shocks have different damping rates or does one shock fit all. I have tried removing the rear seat but failed so I can't at the moment check the label, it does have self leveling rear suspension so hopefully won't have some obscure hard to find front setup.any advice input will be most welcome

There is a special way to remove the rear seat squab.--I believe the way to do it is in the ---How-To's---section.+

Or perhaps a reader of my post can help you.

Gas and oil I'd say Sean otherwise where is the oil coming from?
But it's an advisory; not a failure. Your shock absorber will probably last many more years. You don't need to spend any money now.

The original factory-fitted shocks did have different characteristics. Aftermarket replacements are a compromise.

Your self-levelling units are made by Boge. I had them on my SD1 and they are a brilliant piece of engineering. However, brilliance comes at a cost. Just swallow hard and get out your credit card.

My thinking is that if the oil has managed to get past the seals as tick follows tock the gas will have escaped also compromising the damping

The rear shocks are thankfully dry,had to fit new springs on the back first mot I did on it that's how I found out it had self leveling on it first springs were for standard suspension and the car looked like something from the 70's jacked up at the back
