Default KV6 sump plug

Oil change coming up, I stick to the OEM 15K recommendation and use semi- synthetic W10-40 and 'OEM' filters - this change is @ circa 171K. What are members' view on a magnetic sump plug upgrade. It's not a lot of money but do they really do anything under normal running circumstances.

If any scrapings off the bores is fetched off into the sump, the magnet will more than likely pick it up so you can worry about the state of your engine.

Hi John,

As the majority of the KV6 engine is aluminium alloy I wouldn't bother if I were you (particularly at 171,000 miles ).

More relevant to gearboxes I reckon. Back in the day, I had an Austin Mini Cooper with the combined engine/gearbox. So, both ran in the same oil. It had a magnetc sump plug which usually came out at every service looking like a well used tar brush.
