Default "Dead" electric seat

Hi, My electric passenger-seat suddenly sent itself back on the runners and set the seat-back to vertical whilst driving along with elderly mother-in-law "Godzilla", somewhat traumatised, in situ [sic]. I suspected her walking-stick as a likely culprit but she denies that --

Anyway, now the seat is dead; nothing moves. Fuse 3, 19 and 21 OK, as is the fusible-link (driver's-seat OK anyway). The self-test sequence in the manual only appears to relate to the drivers memory-seat, (checked on both of my 75's), giving no beeps at all when you exercise the passenger seat-switches in test-mode.

Any ideas of where I should begin? Would a battery-disconnect be likely to help? (latched-off relay ???). Loth to do that if pointless, what with radio-codes and the main ECU having to learn that 2+2=4 all over again.

Have you checked that the under seat connector is still in and receiving power?

Default "Dead" electric seat

Yes, thanks, I guess that's the next logical step but actually getting my oversized hands to it is far from easy, being the rear-most of the 3 connectors and not being able to move the seat at all. It looks in OK and is "finger-tip-check"-secure; Godzilla's walking stick couldn't have got to there anyway. To disconnect it to check power might mean getting the seat detached from the floor but that won't be easy without being able to move it back and forth.

Another thought is the overload thermal cut-outs that the motors have, according to the manual. Do they auto-reset on cooling do you know or is there a reset-button or some such as on an electric kettle that needs manually pressing? Can't see anything but not only access but also vision of the motors is distinctly limited.

The reset is automatic.. I'd be tempted to remove the relevant fuses rather than the battery as the passenger seat is not perm live..

Also perhaps it's worth checking the relays.. You can swap one of the other units into the seat to see if it works.. It may just be blown and a few quid will replace it.

Colinite 476.. The best wax I've ever used... Sets as hard as stone and gives a great shine.. Also good for boats

Default "Dead" electric seat

Hi Steven, Thanks for the tips. When the snow stops I'll "get-out-and-get-under"!
