"EP" mode and now lost reserve gear
Hi
After recently having my HGF and a ongoing suspected Stuck thermostat i have now had a "EP" fault show up on my dashboard and can now longer get reserve gear and what Drive i have is pretty slow. I have already just recharged the battery for 20+ hours and starts the car fine and have also checked Plenums today and all was good I have Russell from MG Solutions booked to do the Thermostat next sunday and he has a T4 and is going to check the error codes. Is there anything else i could check and if i now do have a gearbox problem where the best/trusted place i could get it diagnosed? Any help gladly accepted Regards Tim Last edited by timborob; 16th January 2010 at 16:38.. |

Get the fault codes checked first on a T4...EP is the emergency program to try and stop further damage to the car.

Thanks for your reply
From what i have read on here is that if you lose reverse gear then its probable the gearbox will require stripping down I do have warranty but was recently turned down for the HGF due to they don't cover overheating to the cylinder head. Not pleased with my purchase only 4 months ago and if the warranty doesn't cover it then i will try to sell on here as cannot continue on like this |

Personaly I would get the gearbox checked BEFORE you spend another penny on the car as a faulty gearbox can cost far more to repair than your car is worth..

I will be calling up Russell and discussing if the T4 session will bring up anything relevant from error codes which might point to just electrical/ solenoid faults that would cause syptoms
Can anyone on here recommend or who can help me with diagnostic on my Auto Gearbox in the London area? |

It may be a solenoid or wiring problem both of which can be accessed without the removal of the gearbox. (The soleniod pack is located under a cover on the front of the gearbox.) Russ

Tim,
It might have nothing to do with the gearbox. If a sensor connected to the automatic transmission ECU fails, it will display 'EP' and could disable certain gearbox functions. Recently a member had an 'EP' indication when his battery voltage was below a level programmed into the ECU! I know it's worrying, but remember we're dealing with computers here. Take it one step at a time. Go ahead with the T4 session and report back. At this stage don't allow yourself to be talked into having a reconditioned transmission. Simon.

You could try disconnecting the battery for 20 mins and see if that clears the fault....
