Default compressor replacement

My a/c compressor has given up the ghost. I am having difficulty removing the bolts that secure the pipes to the compressor. It is only a question of time before I manage to release them but I am worried about replacing said pipes when fitting the replacement compressor. I wondered if there are any tips about this. I did do a search but didn't find any. I am contemplating removing the radiator to get at the compressor more easily. Does anyone have any comments to make about this? Time is not a consideration as I have alternative transport.
