The wife just reminded me of her sisters experience with her smart meter. She had one installed as her provider had said she was going to save money ( she is very tight). Her normal bill for gas and electric was about £100 a month in a 70's terrace with 2 bedrooms. The first quarter was over £1000, she complained and an engineer was sent out to check everything out and his conclusion was the old meter must have been under reading and is often the case.

Several complaints and a new meter was fitted and though slightly better was still a lot higher than her old meters.

She now lives with no heating unless it drops below 15 degrees, one bulb in the room she is in and will often microwave her food and she is still paying more than before.

How can this be right? If the engineer was correct that these old meters under read maybe that is why they are so keen to replace all these old meters?

I like my smart meter. It helped me to find out my coal effect fire was terribly inefficient. I knew they were bad but this confirmed my thoughts. I now dont use it and move th central heating up a degree or so and all is fine. In th past iv had electric meter that did run in my favour in a old terrest house many moons ago. So yes there is a urgency for suppliers to "UPGRADE" th system.

Th bad thing for me is they arn't compatible with other suppliers after been told th new "generation" are.... I switch supplier's yearly and find it beneficial. But it does mean i read th meters again from th smart meter instead of th old way "cupboard diving" and all that wife upsetting removal of goods stacked at th back.!!!

Ps. My smart meter lives under th telly. When th news comes on i watch th meter instead. And lastly it anoys me th gas usage isn't in real time like th electric side is..??
