Not a good pic (from phone at the time), but was the result of using the wrong masking tape... when I removed the tape after an hour or so, it took the paint with it ! Gutted!! Read the small print and it was a 10 minute to set tape Not knowing that there were different setting times.... So be aware I needed a £130 re-spray, the paint was the major factor as the garage could only buy a litre as a minimum quantity

Jesus..
Thats shocking. I do have to say I had some masking tape holding on some protective sheet on my 260 for a month!! I was very nervous taking it off, but all was ok. What I find is that soaking it with water softens it and lets it release better. Having said that, I think the bumper off for the headlights is maybe the best idea. No masking then, |

I doubt if that would happen to the factory paint Andrew.
Refinished coachwork has varying adhesion depending on how well it was prepared, but never seems to be as good as original. A lot of used cars have a bonnet/bumper/wings "blown over" before display on a forecourt for example. Caution has to be taken with pressure washers on refinished surfaces

Ive got a BMW had 7 MG ZTs and a R75 and let me tell you a secret.............
I loved every one but what my car doesnt suffer from is Failed resistors for the fan Boots full of water Sunroofs peeing in water and flooding the car Failed vis motors Failed Inlet manifolds Failed thermostats Stretched handbrake compensators Bonnet pulls failing Leaking rear window seals Slave and clutch cylinders made of plastic Dreaded HGF O rings on rad caps Air bag lights etc etc Shannon tubes eaten by normal weather Headlamps cloudy after a few years Broken springs sitting on the drive etc I love the cars but your talking thro your backside. Massive depreciation.. Everyone must be wrong All cars are prone to faults but when the Brand is seen by everyone as scarp value please have another think. |

I used a 3m kit on my wife's Accord headlights. They were very very bad. The kit did an amazing job and the road is not a lot brighter at night. Did not think the kit would do such a good job

Most of those failure bits are either BMW involvement or BMW design flaws when they worked with Rover.
Deliberate built in obsolescence is my conspiracy theory. They even governed the power of their M47 engine so it wouldn't outshine their 3 series. Dispicable behaviour. Quote:
