Problems with my LG 50" PLASMA ...
My LG 50" plasma tv has developed 5 lines down the centre of the screen. They are very thin about a millimetre and they tend to move occasionaly to the left or right a bit. Anyone know what the problem is and can it be fixed on the cheap ??..

Normally it's a sign of t-con board failure, is it more on one side than the other, larger screens tend to have a 4-channel tcon and is split as two channels per side. Also the heat from the psu can damage the bonding of the ribbon cable to the screen, sometimes opening it up and packing some card between the chassis and the screen where the lines are can give a good temp repair.

I had a similar problem on one of my 50" LG Plasma's about a year ago.
Turned out to be interference from the power supply unit inside the TV. Back cover off & it was a fair size unit. It was done under warranty so I have no idea of actual cost. Your fault may well be something different but that was my experience. |

The line's are almost in the middle of the screen but tend to move slightly to the left or right by a centemetre or two. Is this an easy repair or am i better of getting a new telly. Also how easy is it to do the fix with card ?.. |

Hi, if the lines are not fixed in one place consistantly then bonding issue is unlikley. It seems a T-Con issue or failing that a PSU one. The PSU issues tend to be slow start and then little or no functionality.
The T-Con is most likely and for a fairly capable person it easy enough. Make sure you have yourself grounded with an ESD strap first. The T-Con is at teh top centre as you look from the rear with the back off the TV. Samsungs are easily got at but the LG boards are normally buried beneath lots of metalwork which acts as a shielding canister. Once you get to it it's easy unplug and plug new board in. If in doubt however dont attempt it.
