strange plastic grommet
Hi all i am awaiting lockdown getting eased so i can take my tourer ro get the o/s rear sill repaired as there is a bit of rust around that area what i was wanting to know is a couple of months ago a friend had the car on his ramp looking at the sill he was poking around the area i didn't pay much attention to what he was doing but at one point he handed me a white plastic grommet saying do you want that he never said where it came from or what it was and i didn't give it a second thought but recently it has had me thinking especially with the weather we have been getting was the grommet a plug to keep out muck and water from wherever he got it from as i say hopefully it won't be to long before i can get the car in for repair but in the meantime is there any importance of the grommet i have mentioned thanks in advance

Did he find it in the sill, near the jacking point ? If so, and if it was oblong, about an inch long, it may have been from the top of the sill where the kick strip clips in (the plastic trims you can see when you open a door).
I'm pretty certain there's a number of these used in the upper part of the outer sill skin to hold the spring-steel clips that the sill trim lugs push down into. And from memory I'm sure they're white. Could have fallen down inside the sill section some time and your friend, poking around, found it ??? But without a bit more info, it's hard to say !
