door cards rertrim

I am thinking that my next job should be to retrim my door cards as the fabric is very saggy.

I have read various helpful threads on this, including how to remove and refit the door cards, and what clips I will probably need to have a stock of for when the break!

I have three questions, please:

1. Can anyone recommend a source for the right foam-backed trimming fabric to give best match (of both colour and feel) with the original. My car has Ash Grey/Smokestone trim.

2. Best spray contact glue to use

3. Some threads have described taking apart the door cards to separate the section that has the fabric on it, involving drilling or melting some plastic rivets and then refitting by "plastic welding" with a soldering iron or small screws. Is this necessary to do, or can the fabric be applied with the door card intact?

It's best to separate the covered parts because you need to overlap the fabric for a clean edge. For a colour match, I can't help (re covered mine in black) To refit (after melting off the rivets) I found tiny self tappers and washers the best and most secure way. I used a spray adhesive from Home Bargains to glue, and it was fine.

I used a Faux Leather that had the backing already on it for mine.
You really need to take the door cards apart to get the best finish otherwise it will just lift again. I put mine back together with industrial heat glue and 12 months later I’ve had no problems with it coming apart or rattling.
As for the glue. I tried all the recommended glues but they all started to lift after a few days so I contacted an upholsterer and they recommended this one. Again 12 months later and no lifting of the fabric.

Nice bit of stretch
Dropped in lucky with some cards for my ZTT so not had to do them

The sample arrived. Looks nice fabric , but the colour is not a great match for the smokestone of my 75. The “dark grey” is too dark and the “light grey” is too light, although depending on whether I can find a better matching alternative I might go with one of these as I like the “faux suede” texture

re trimmed my zt (which ive decided to keep for now)
and did the door trims, roof lining and all the pillars.
A couple of things, first you need to completely strip all the old sticky backing off the panel so it is a clean panel, a stiff brush and soapy water will help.
As mentioned you need to dis assemble the door panel.
I used a foam backed material which had some stretch.
Use a good heat resistant glue.
