Sean,
Turn on the ignition or start the engine from cold and press the windscreen demist button. Now get out of the car and walk to the radiator grille and listen carefully. Can you hear the radiator fan running continuously? Simon

1 This is to much. 2 To low. 3 Make sure the coolant is correct drive it and if the temp rises open up the heating to full and see if it goes down.

That's very good advice from Arctic there Sean. With the expansion tank cap removed you should be able to read the 'MAX' tab but not the 'MIN' tab below it.
Was it a hot day when you travelled to Devon with the air conditioning on? Were you towing? Simon

I would check the temperature of the coolant using the diagnostics on the car, this way you will be certain as to the actual coolant temperature when the temp dial in the car is going up and down. I would also as a matter of priority change the coolant and flush the system thoroughly before refilling, then test again as above, by the way you should remove the engine block plug at the back of the engine to ensure ALL the old cooland drains out. |
