Hi Mike,

I will do that, but I was assured that the wiring was ok, but how far back it was checked I don't know. Have been advised by knowledgeable Nano'ers to unclip the wiring off the alternator and plug it on and off a few times as it might be a dodgy connection, as you imply, wiring that's been moved can do the same thing.

Many thanks for your suggestion,

Martyn

With the system working correctly the voltage at both sides of the warning light should be identical.

ie. The light should go out.

I appreciate that and that is why I can understand that it's highly probable that the brown/yellow sense wire may have a break in it or chaffed to short out, hence the light is on but the alternator still charges ok. I may have to take the bumper off to make closer examination of the wiring which looks fine from what I can see where it runs by the washer bottle. Not looking forward to taking the bumper off as I always struggle to get it back on, took me 2 hours plus once .

This is indeed the case on the diesel. Your brown/yellow sensing wire runs from the ECM (C0331-1) to the instrument pack (C0230-4) so nowhere near the front bumper you'll be pleased to hear Martyn!

Yes but a damaged cable from the alternator can bring the light on Simon as Chris found here:

Funnily enough you were the last one to comment on it.
