Unfortunately the temp gauge is notoriously unreliable and often only goes beyond 9 o'clock when its too late. Its better to check the temp via the ipk display on the dash Press the trip reset button as you turn the key to position 1 then press continuously till it displays 19. Once it shows 19.0 then immediately start pressing the button again until you hit 7. The true temp will now be shown and you can now start the engine and monitor the temp changes. If you are idling then its possible that the engine is not reaching the required temp to kick the fan in. My KV6 has a leaking thermostat and still takes 15- 20 minutes idling to hit 100 degrees which then trips the fan And remember if you are driving then air is being drawn through the rad and cooling the engine anyway. If the true temp via the IPK is between 88-95 then you are running at the correct temp and the low speed fan wont kick in. Paul Last edited by paulh260260; 18th April 2021 at 20:59.. |

How to monitor the actual coolant temperature
Hi Bill,
Just to add to Paul's helpful post, here is a link to T-Cut's guide to activating the instrument pack diagnostics. Test 7.0 will show you the actual coolant temperature in degrees. Any value below 104˚C will not trigger your fan. The process is very fiddly and it's quite normal to have to try a few times. Let us know how you get on. Simon

We have a 1.8t SORN at the moment and run up on the drive and depending on the ambient temperature wont reach the fan cut in temperature 104 c in 20 mins. As others have said the IPK would give you an indication of the indicated temperature assuming your temp sensor working correctly If your temp sender is not working correctly and not giving a true reading the fan will not activate until the IPK reading reaches 104 C .Meaning if it under reading your engine temp may be higher than the shown temperature .
