Perhaps these type of " shows", should be looked at ? One loss is too much.
It doesn't seem to happen elsewhere. Those who crave fame pay a huge price.

Reality shows and social media have a lot to answer for, but you neither have to watch nor read. I don't do either.

Nor me. Never seen any of them going right back to the first. Always thought they were exploitative, not unlike Roman antics in the Coliseum.

I’m more concerned with the mental fragility in some people who think fame and fortune by any means are some kind of salvation. This stampede of baring your soul, amongst other things, for the delectation of captive passive armchair critics is scary.

The torment in the minds of unsuccessful participants in what is seen as show-business amounts to a conspiracy of voyeurism by producers. The tragedy is the damage to otherwise happy people with so much to offer without succumbing to false ideals.

There must have been extreme desperation in this lovely girl’s heart to do such a thing. Maybe her legacy will be a dose of reality, the real kind.

Very sad for her, her family and friends.

Some people are put on pedestals by the trash media available these days and thrust into situations where they cannot cope, nor have the help they would benefit from; other real stars have suffered similarly.

As to the CPS situation, when given circumstances where evidence appears to prove a case, they have to present it to the Courts, and it is the Judiciary who decide the outcome.

The phrase which we often hear in this respect Fred is "a realistic prospect of conviction". Now, how can that be true when the principal, and possibly only, witness for the prosecution doesn't want it?

Would the CPS step in with a heavy hand in an identical case which didn't involve a celebrity?

As with many government departments the CPS will be in a position of having to take action if a crime appears to be committed. They risk public ridicule if they are not seen to be proactive in cases of public interest. That of course has a bad effect on institutional empire-building. The last and unlamented boss of the CPS is a case in point. Ultra-aware of current wokeness.

My knowledge of the criminal law is very limited but I thought the offence is against society in general and the individual in particular and the prosecution cannot be waived by the person offended against? If that is not the case then I will be able to give a few people who have upset in my life a good beating and then frighten them so much they withdraw their statements etc. Maybe I wont bother though. As to the lady I don't know of her but its a great shame. Chris.S.

I am pleased and grateful for advice received further to my post 18, that the laid down criteria for CPS decisions of this nature have been described by a former CPS prosecutor, Nazir Aftzal, saying:

‘Victimless' prosecutions (evidence based prosecutions as they are actually known) are pursued in the public interest if a 'victim' does not or cannot support the case.

Last year there were 750,000 reports of domestic abuse to police [and] only 75,000 were prosecuted and 75% convicted.

There were 120+ domestic homicides, each of these were obviously prosecuted without victims' evidence. (victim deceased)

Mr Afzal adds: "It's to avoid the latter that prosecutors pursue the former. But only when they are allegations of serious violence and there is other strong evidence available such as 999 call recordings, police body worn camera, statements and interview.
Sometimes you need to protect someone even when they can't see it themselves.

To my untutored mind that seems reasonable and in the public’s interest.
