This although an excellent explanation, doesn't explain why the cheque is not printed as part of the letter. The technology for that has been available for years and can be processed by just one decently written wedge of software. On the other hand, I suppose that is akin to asking for the moon.

Refunds and change of ownership will be dealt with by different departments who don't speak to each other and probably never will.

Different process streams and the cheque printing may even be handled by a different print factory for commercial reasons.

With orgaisational processes one of the design principles is to minimise the number of interdependencies and interactions between different process streams for reasons of efficieny.

Cool And the plot thickens

Came home to find two letters from the car insurance people. In one letter was an explanation that I was in more credit, and a cheque for £26.13. In the other letter, it also stated that I was owed more money, this time a cheque for £30.13.
Daft. Why not credit me or send one letter and one cheque.

No wonder the costs keep going up with the money they waste.
