Scary things! I use to keep a tarantula, massive thing it was. I hate spiders but with this in the room I never saw another spider in there ever! The tarantula was in a box so not like it was loose eating them, otherwise I really would have just had a heart attack.

As a hardcore arachnophobe, and former pyromaniac I can tell you what I normally do in situations like this. I borrow a lighter, and a can of cheap hairspray, and with said articles fashion a makeshift blowtorch. Rarely fails to fry the offending intruder. Thoroughly dangerous of course, which is why I would qualify this comment as anecdotal rather than advice.

I would`nt worry too much about these fake widows.Where i work in Dorset we found a whole nest of these and just left them alone. They only bite if they feel threatened.A colleague tried to pick one up before we knew what they were and he got bitten on the hand.Yes it hurt and his hand was swollen for a few days but he survived. He said it felt like a bee sting.
The media just like to scaremonger. They have nothing better to do.

A few years ago we went to a tropical creature open day held by Bristol University.I had a very large Tarantula put on my hand and it crawled all the way up to my neck, then was removed:lol: I was most impressed by SWMBO who is not keen on them and managed to get her to have one put on her hand! The fact that made my neck hairs curl was being told how far it could jump, yet I am sure the guy said if they damage themselves they bleed to to death, as their blood does not clot. That Taratula against my neck was very gentle

yes i realy don't mind the big mexican red knee tarantulas, i acctualy held on a few years ago at tropiquaria in somerset, i was just about to have a good close look at him when the chap said when they feel threatened they can shed the hairs from there back which can cause blindness if it gets in your eyes! I put him down rather quickly!

It's quite strange, i realy don't mind very small spiders and big hairy tarantulas it's just the nasty looking house size spiders i hate and run away from!
