Back on thread, Having never used chat rooms, and therefore, maybe I should not be posting my view,,,,,, But, with the speed of responses on this forum to topical threads, is a "chat room" necessary?
Not in any way decrying the OP's original idea, but just wondering whether such a form of communication is necessary? Also, being aware of the IP's (server) capabilities, and apparent lack of them, can the service be accommodated? Will the mods be able to keep up ? The forum does not allow a post within 1 minute of posting a previous post (does that make sense?) so would this delay be transferred to the proposed "chat room"? Good idea in principle, but just my tuppence's worth.......

Chat rooms are almost real time communication, only delays are down to traffic. Mostly it is akin to a telephone conversation. However there is no means by which it can be regulated by mods or admins. I have seen chat rooms deteriorate into serious bun fights, for little or no reason. Much less likely to occur in this environment but still a major concern in making any decision, as we have to pick up the pieces. (we don't always get it right but we do our best.) |
