With practice I got good results out of a £100 clarke machine. Gas version though.

There are usually a few around on the bay of fleas to have a practice with. DON'T go near the car until you've done loads of practice on tinfoil. Your panels will be thin!

Don't agree, I'm afarid. Used to get pinking on all the cars I had if I had WOT at low revs, and the timing was set with a strobe. This is not a modern car with knock detection.

ahhh i hate pinking, my mini always used to start doing it before the head gasket went.

It doesn't pink anymore happily (Touch wood.) It was a worn out distributor.
