Hmmm not for me looks dreadful. I loved my 3500 Vanden Plas SD1 in white. Though as Dragrad says P6 a true classic has a 2200TC and a 3500S. Lovely motors.

An old friend of mine had one of those... for a week. Talked to him the day after he bought it, and he said "....that I have been warned not to floor it". On the following Saturday I saw him on the side of the road, northbound out of Cardigan. Boot full of shopping from Tesco, wife and three kids....

I stopped and asked "What's the problem?" He said " I floored it coming out of the junction!" He'd snapped the half shaft!!!.....

Although not my favourite Rover, it was not the worst, but certainly not the best....... But that is MHO

What was truly amazing was that my 1300cc Nissan van towed it up the hill and to a safe place 2 miles up the road. Never got out of 2nd gear though....

Well it was a 3.5 Litre

It was a nice car, but I have been somewhat prejudiced by a Garage Seargent who constantly complained that whenever an Area car or Traffic car was involved in a POLAC (Police Accident) it was not an SD1 as opposed to a P6 3.5 V!!

The SD1's were being introduced into the Mets at the time.....

A man of taste.

However, I once commented on the SD1 to Gordon Bashford, who was one of the old school of senior Rover engineers. His comment 'it was alright until Leyland got their hands on it'. Now what sort of a car would the SD1 have been if Rover had still been independent?
