The facelift models have this function as standard. A long press of the unlock button releases the boot.
It can be done on a mk1, but you will need to do another 30minute mod first.

I'll take a set please, option 1

Very impressed with the work you have done on this, thanks for taking the effort.

Not my business but would a refundable deposit for the exchange units work?
There would then be an insentive to return the old units quickly.
