How do you manage to get into these place to take pics, as they are all fenced off and boarded up? Is it not trespassing! I'm not criticising btw, just curious.

I find an opening, the homeless, drunks and junkies usually leave an entry point. I generally spend an afternoon having a good recce of a potential visit site, researching it and identify any potential hazards and then I'll revisit with my exploring buddy with the appropriate safety equipment.

I've been 'caught' numerous times by security and landowners and most are generally alright, and more fascinated by the images and the reasons I'm there.
It is a Civil Trespass matter so there is no illegality in doing it, the police can't get involved and usually the land owner can't be bothered with going to court only for you to get a caution.

Some of my best visits have been twilight outings around midnight.
Others I've obtained permission and submitted a full risk assessment before being allowed in.

This one in Sheffield was one of my favourites, was as if they just shut the doors in the early 80s locked up and nobody had been in ever since. Tools, stock, paperwork and equipment was all still there, a real gem of a place and like a time warp.

As long as you don't break in Rich, you are usually ok, like canonite says, look for previous signs of entry, 99% of the time someone has been in first!

The kind of thing I would like to do, you remember Witter's gibbet up Otterburn way? Well years ago, some mates went up ter, late one night after the pub, and scared themselves sh..less To top it all, they then went on to Biddlestone church, rumoured to be haunted.

Being ex railway it saddens me to see your photos of Healey Mills. The freight side of the railway is a shadow of its former self, when I started in 1980 still used to deliver individual wagon loads to sidings owned by local businesses, now all the remaining freight companies are interested in are bulk loads.

As for the Class 56s, they were great locos, 3250HP, we used them on local coal services as well as in pairs on longer distance services from the Scottish coalfields to the likes of Drax.

Well instead of watching the football, we headed off to RAF Stenigot to try a few night time pics, Deb pointed the torch while I pointed the camera, only a few pics as it was a tad chilly!
