Default Steering wheel swap

Just in the middle of upgrading a few bits and bobs on my rover. Currently i'm looking at swapping my leather steering wheel over to a wooden one. Do all steering wheels fit (pre facelift to a facelift version). I know there is the factor of cruise control etc but just wondered if it was a straight swap otherwise. Cheers Dave

If you disconnect the battery and leave it for around 15 - 30 minutes then the air bag should lose its charge otherwise... It can explode in your face!

you need a long torx bit to remove the 2 screws holding the airbag cover in from the back, and a socket to remove the wheel nut ( cant remember the size )

The nut will be tight so get someone else to hold the wheel whilst you release it rather than use the wheel lock as a stop in case you damage it.

dont forget as above to disconnect battery for 30 minutes and if you do that and have sat nav, it has to be shut down correctly and you may have a stereo with a code to remember ?

I do know of a mechanic who lost his ear drum when he forgot to disconnect the battery on a astra and the airbag went off in the side of his head.

Not nice, so always better to play safe with these things.
