Wierd door handle....
Tonight tried to get into the car, the driver's door would not open... Locked and unlocked .. still would not open
Locked and unlocked again, still no joy. Yanked the door handle - hard!! Door opened. Closed it and had to yank hard again to get it to open. This time got in and went to my meeting. Came out, locked and unlocked the car, door opened easily. Went home, got out, locked and unlocked the door, again had to yank it open Any ideas, please.....

A possible case of driver error? Have you tried spraying some wd40 into the mechanism?

Not yet, late meeting, will put some silicone spray on the in the morning. WD40 collects too much dust!... Thought it might be something more serious than a simple bit of lubrication... Maybe I'm getting too paranoid....

Have you been spying on me again?
Maybe the problems temperature related? My drivers door handle never works when its hot but always opens any other time!

I had a similar problem with a rear door. Sometimes I had to yank hard to open it other times no problem, always ok from the inside. In the end I couldn't open the door from the outside, inside ok. The garage replaced the back plate, a small plastic part was cracked. Since then no more problems.

How to change the Handle Backplate
I had the same problem with my rear offside door and had to replace the handle blackplate, part number CXF100222, at the time it was on back
order and I had to use a one from a breakers. Rimmers have stock at present http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID001786 item number 5 - I notice that they have the drivers door blackplate listed as a separate part. This gives you an idea what the problem is, first the broken unit And this is how it should look If you've got a Haynes manual the stripdown and reassembly of it is fairly easy to follow apart from two problems I had. Firstly there is a small clip that is rather inaccessable which needs releasing to allow the handle "button" to be removed - might be different on the drivers door Secondly I don't agree with Haynes regards where to reconnect the mechanism when reassembly. They say at A which is rather awkward as you have to do it with the exterior handle "pulled", I found it was much easier to do it at B. Finally an image so you can get an overall idea of how the whole thing goes together and works - this is looking as from the outside of the car at the rear offside door, note didn't mark number 5 as the lock itself, note is missing the extra key mechanism that would be on the drivers door. Hope that's a help. Regards Last edited by Dragrad; 10th September 2010 at 00:06.. |
