Default Worrying news for us diesel de-cat owners

I have it from a good source that as from February 2014 if our cars have a decat, they will fail the mot

Just wondered, has anyone else heard this or different?
Quite worried now tbh.

I'm sure I've seen somewhere that if a car was fitted with a 'cat' when it was made, it must always have one. Could be wrong of course - very often am!

Chad.

Hi Chad, the actual law as it stands is "any vehicle subject to a FULL emissions test is required to have a catalytic convertor fitted, however the diesel is not subject to a full emissions test, just a smoke test. As it stands now.

Diesels are only tested on smoke particulate output not emissions as such so it is possible for a diesel to pass a current MOT without a CAT.

Ive not heard anything about this new MOT criteria coming in 2014 but is very enforceable should it be true, unless you go down the road of a sports cat so the car appears to have one but the guts of the CAT is not present and of course the testing centre has no way of knowing this.

That's right Mark, but like you say, I'm sure it changes next year.

Chad.
