Front wishbone gone again

Jacked car up today to replace bottom engine mount with powerflex polybush and found bottom wishbone ball joint gone.Delphi wishbone only fitted 4 weeks ago.
So frustrating Finding quality parts

Had the same problem with a Delphi arm it was taken back to the motor factor who sent it back to the maker. Both the arms were replaced at the same time and it was the O/S which failed 950 miles. It was replaced under warranty and as it had been fitted by the garage I use for MOT's it didn't cost me to replace. The ball joint at the suspension strut was the bit that failed with excessive lift.

Identical problem o/S bottom ball joint at bottom of strut . I will be in contact with supplier on Monday

Are you sure it’s the ball joint?
There has been a few cases reported where the hub has been worn causing play.

Very easy to spot where the play is with the wheel jacked off the ground. If the hub has worn then you will need a new one - replacing the arm won't help. The tightening torque listed in RAVE is barely enough to clamp the balljoint, and any play will cause wear in the hub over time as it is the softer material of the two.

As mentioned, the usual cause is the pinch point wearing through because the pinch bolt and nut wasn't changed; this part:

We have quality Front Lower Arms in stock, failures seem very few and far between. Give ours a try:

Not the cheapest, but they come with the bush already fitted and seem to last well. They won't help if the pinch point is worn, though.

This was after I bought and fitted one of these LINK


When the "genuine" part was fitted, the cone of the balljoint didn't fit into the subframe properly, leaving a 8mm gap between the rubber boot, and the subframe.


It was marked as made in "CN" so another poor Chinese pattern part masquerading as an original at a premium price


As an aside, the TRW part I bought from Autodoc has been fitted for around nine months, and the fit and finish of the part enabled it to be fitted first time without the need to clean up raggy edges, something the "genuine" part certainly needed


I also fitted new pinch bolts, and tightened them to 65nm on recommendations from other posters on here.

Seems to be a theme at the moment, unfortunately supply of 'genuine' parts is quite different than it was some years ago.
It used to be the case that these parts were mostly from the OE supplier to MGR back in the day - now it seems to be more of a pricing exercise than the pursuit of quality.
