Hi.
Was the engine turned over at all with the belt off? Other than that if the timing has been out there could have been valve to piston contact...... bent valves!! Cant really think of anything else that would reduce compression unless and its a long shot if the camshaft was out and you have hydraulic cam followers it is possible they are all expanded due to not being held by the cam. Although you'd have had difficulty in re-assembly.

no I timed it up and and turned it by hand first.hope there ain't no bent valves again,I've already replaced the head as it snapped the cambelt before, that's the reason my daughter ended up with it off my sister in law.so no way I am doing head again,it will just have to be scrapped.

A long shot I know but as you removed the cam sprockets, could you have got them mixed up by any chance?
If I remember rightly on these, the cams & crank are locked by pins to time up & White lines on the belt for alignment. Did you use anything to lock the engine? If you're sure all the above is correct, the next step is spark plugs out & do a compression test. If that come back fine, at least you almost certainly know you haven't bent any valves. Could you not have left it stripped down when you discovered cam seals leaking rather than putting it all back together? |

Agreed that the first test is a compression test. Then everything else if OK.

Glad you got it sorted.
You are a really lucky chap for it not to have done any damage. |
