Air-con noise
This has suddenly started today
Basically when I start the engine (with air-con on) or start the air-con going once the engine is running, I get a "whine" for about two seconds then it disappears and the A/C works fine. It's literally a whine as I thought it was the dogs in the back to start with! I have tested to see if it's each time I switch the A/C off and then back on, but it doesn't seem to be. Not yet tested if it's more heater related (ie if it does it when switching on to "Econ" mode) Now I'll just sit back and wait for folks to tell me it will be something very expensive and/or unobtainable (it's been one of those weeks....) |

Sounds like it may be the txv valve in the heater box, quite common to make this noise ( fitted on the drivers side lower heater box - behind the trim next to your left leg). If really annoying it can be changed but you will need to 'reclaim' the gas and then refill.

Yes, your refrigerant gas is low. Go to KwikFit and get it serviced under their 'colder or your money back' guarantee. But don't buy anything else!

Air con. whine
Dave,
Be sure that the drivebelt tension is o.k. They make a 'shriek' under load when they're loose. Engaging and disengaging the compressor could trigger this. Simon.

- Didn't make the noise when I switched it on to "Econ" after start up - Didn't do it this morning (weather was very damp/misty) IIRC from slipping fan belts in the past, on damp days they didn't screech, on dry days they did! So, looks like I need to tighten my belt! |
