Thanks Malcolm
As mentioned in my previous threads on A/C, many compressors were found to have insufficient oil in them straight from the Rover factory, which resulted in quite a few warranty claims few years back.

So with lack of oil and lack of cooling from faulty fans, there are many goosed compressors out there.

Cooling doesn't seem very good at all, in fact probably getting worse, and doesn't seem to work at all when sitting stationary (even though the engine fan is spinning).

I'm reluctant to spend £45 - £65 on a re-gas only to find the compressor is completely shot! Car was registered early 2000 and so getting on a bit.

All comments appreciated.

Many thanks,

Chris
Only slight whirring noise (as described earlier) may be cured by addition of compressor oil (by a specialist)
In you case sounds like your compressor is goosed!
