My ABS light is on constantly and my speedo does not work. i have failed my mot and the garage tells me the sensors appear to be okay and i must go to a Rover dealer to see if they can help. Can anyone here help before i do this?

I think you'll find the wheel sensor needs changing despite the comment from the garage. Fairly common fault which happens once (if ever) in the car's life for most people

have a look on Ebay, but first check the cable to the sensor has not rubbed against a wheel or driveshaft and worn through. The sensors are not the easiest thing to remove, you just have to be careful.

Good luck

Careful, I think speedo is front left. Now I'm not sure, but unless you are, check thoroughly first.

Edit: Stand corrected, it must be Front Left on the cars at work. Sorry but wanted to be sure.

There are other threads on the subject

I had this problem about 2 years ago with my last 75cdt the sensor is in the drivers front wheel hub, to buy it was about 7 pounds but I ******** it when I tried to fit it, so I took it to a former Rover dealer (McHarg Rennie & Lyndsay) and they done it for me within the hour for around £30. Well worth it.

Yes the sensor is the one on the offside front, I had the front nearside last year and it took a day to remove same. I now have the rear offside gone and I slaved a front spare in and it clears the fault (ABS on at ignition on, the system integrity check) but I cannot remove it even when plusgassed. If you fit a new one smear the body up with copperslip, it will be much easier to remove in future. By the way the front sensor part no is: SSB000150
