Can you put a temporary short on the wires to see if the CC light will activate on the dash?
No point in sourcing a new switch if its not faulty.

Thanks CDTI. Thought about that but there is no room to manoeuvre anything up there, hence my question about dash removal being necessary.

Do you have a copy of RAVE? I just had a brief look and it looks like fuse 13 in the footwell fusebox feeds the pedal switches. Have you checked this? I haven't got time now but if you want me to look up more of the CC stuff on RAVE, I'll do it later on this evening.

CDTI
Does the fuse feed both switches, because the brake lights work OK? Also, when I put my thinking cap on the right way round, operating the clutch allows the switch to open, so if the switch is stuck in, then in theory the cruise should work OK because as far as it is concerned, the clutch is not operated. Or does the ECU need to see a change in condition at some point before it will allow cruise to function? Mick |

On the switch position iirc, when the switch is stuck in, or knackered, then it won't work as you describe. Previous experience on here says that when stuck in it 'fails' so cruise goes non-operative. If you want to pm me an email address I can send you the full CDTi cruise system description pages from the Workshop Manual hth

this might sound silly but make sure your foot is not resting on the clutch pedal , its enough for it not to work

Nothing to lose so "switch?" out.
Pics attached (I hope). http://s200.photobucket.com/albums/a...le_011/Switch/ Not a switch! BMW part number. Anyone know what it is? Is it the mounting for a switch? Could be a long job this........... Mick |

The clutch should have a double pole switch Rover part no XKD000090. I doubt if the car was fitted with the switch if cruise was not specified at time of buying, think about it 1000 cars without switch at 20 pounds each £20000 saving in production costs. I set of contacts clutch engaged & vice versa. |

Attaching images the correct way this time. There is another number on it but I can't find a microscope! Mick |

That BMW part number is for a 'stop light switch' for a 1990's E46 3 Series, so same time as the 75. It's definitely not a cruise pedal switch.
