Does it matter that much if there is .1 or 0.2 more of an ohm, the fan will still turn. I was hoping Jules would have got back to me about that bracket he did, if he could sell me one, but he must be busy elsewhere. Anyway, I have a low ohms meter(ESR meter), so I will measure the resistance in the wire before I use it, just to see what it is, and if it is too much(hoping now it actually is), I will get another low value R and put it in parallel to make it near the actual resistance as possible. It would be good to have two resistors actually instead of one, they share the load and the heat.
I am thinking that the black bulkhead in front of the radiator water cap will do. I could drill couple holes in the horizontal lip and fit the resistor underneath the lip. Hoping still that I do not have to remove the bumper. I will use heat sink compound to dissipate heat. I also had the mad idea of assembling a metal box with a fan in it, like a CPU fun or some such, and using that to force cool the resistor, just so that I would not have to remove the bumper. SMC: I was not in any way accusing you or otherwise. I only went and looked on E-Bay after I had read that you were supposedly selling R's, found out you were not, but forgot to add that to the post. Sorry dude. Last edited by myjess; 1st June 2007 at 22:17.. |

sorry - prob me - I was sure it was when posting, but looked again and it isnt!
It also now says "heater blower" so looks like nothing to do with the cooling fan. |

Take the front bumper off !! (described elsewhere) 10 to 15 mins max! 9 x M6 bolts along top, 1 either side of wheel arches and 10 screws along bottom skirt. Dont know how you would tackle any job to with the cooling fan otherwise. Like Keith says if you remote the resistors more than a few inches away you will need 10mm thick cabling! There is 20 to 40 AMPS drawn by the cooling fan depending on its controlled speed. The most common symptom for resistor failure (just done 2 more 75 CDTi's this week both less than 3 years old) is the cooling fan will spool up to full speed every 30 seconds when it gets an over pressure signal from an active aircon system, then swithes off completey instead of running at Half speed. See Keith's in depth thread on cooling fan theory. Most 75 / ZT's will carry on like for quite a while untill all your aircon gas has gone or the compressor suffers early failure due to running too hot. The cars that are fitted with failed resistors won't generally overheat either because you still have the "overheat" signal for extreme hot days or in traffic where the cooling fan will run full pelt for a few seconds untill water temp comes down again. Its what i call a "maskable fault" most owners are not aware of. But I make sure any Rover MG's I service/ sell are fully funtional so they don't bounce back a few months later. Resistor Kits are available from me £19.95 + PP You can get all the parts you need seperately & much cheaper of course but my kit is ready to fit with a choice of connecting systems and full instuctions. FRONT BUMPER HAS TO COME OFF THOUGH |

Resited on to bottom cross member as a proto type to my V8. But you coudn't do this in desel 75 or ZT engined car.... no room, and not recommended ie loads of work . Removal of bumper, cooling fan, radiator condensor crash beam and slam panel. Much easier to site one or two bigger resistors into the original position. |

Hoping still that I do not have to remove the bumper. Take the bumper off, it really is no big deal. Its one of those jobs which look far bigger than it actually is. Trying to do it without is really making it hard work Andy |
