..and when you do find one such, sing their praises from the rooftops.

We have a great fruit and veg shop. We get most of what we buy from him, better value and better quality than the supermarkets. In particular we buy a full sack of spuds from him when ever we are running low. He charges is us around £10 and drops them off with just a phone call. We have been doing this for decades, always top quality. We have had visitors to dinner the last few days and without prompting, they commented on how much flavour the spuds had. For that £10, we get many more potatoes and they have always been better quality, more fit to keep longer in the sack.

Unfortunately, he says he is closing the shop come September - he says he doesn't have enough trade to make the shop viable any longer

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

*THINKS* - must keep this post Rover-relevant while responding… ahem. When I’m out working on my ROVER, I often get hungry. As an Irishman, I am of course a dedicated solanophile (lover of potatoes). So I rod my plenum, and drive a few miles to the nearest farm which sells potatoes – in my case this one – and buy a bag myself (none for sale there at the moment as it isn't lifting time yet), then I operate the boot remote control of my ROVER and put the sack in there, making sure that the interior light and parking sensors are working properly.

Then I rod my plenum, check the boot for water ingress from the rear screen, repoace the worm gears in my powerfold mirrors, and head for home.

Taters bought this way won’t just actually taste of something – assuming you don’t adopt the execrable English habit of peeling them before boiling – they’ll cost a fraction of what you pay in Tesco. And yes, the farmers spray them to prevent sprouting, so they’ll last a long time in your garage.

If you don’t know of such a farm, just keep your eyes open next time you're out in the country…

Now look, trust an Irishman... if you peel them all the flavour is lost. Boil them till the crack, then peel them on a side plate... you'll wonder what the lovely smell is as you're doing so... it's POTATO

For chips, we just give them a good wash with a brush. Took me many years to get SWMBO to do just that. For boiled and mashed, they still get peeled, but I'm working on that. I agree the goodness and the taste is just under the skin - removed when you peel.

You are clearly a gentleman and a scholar Sir, as I have always maintained.

And I suspect, the further north you go, the more enlightened to the principles of solanology you become... not just the Irish...

Good news it was fixed

I get it all the time in the world of Reliant 3 wheelers.

They are SO simple and yet i have seen SO many bodges. Some garage passes a 3 wheeler on the MOT purely so they dont have to do the work!

One i always remember was the radiator cable tied in on an old boys car. They are only an inch from the water pump fan and the 4 bolts are easy to get in! Also a women near us was charged £600 to rebuild all her brakes. We had to do it again for the MOT 6 months later and nothing had even been touched by them!
