If this is a petrol engine then follow the How to, one from the bottom on the left.

The filter itself isn't the problem. It's the filter casing which comes apart. I believe the petrol filter is a non-serviced item. The permanent fix is the fitting of the orange plastic clip discussed at length on the forum.

EDIT: Note that the data sheet referenced by GG describes a DIY fix using a self-tapping screw and not the now ubiquitous orange clip.

Personally I do not agree with the screw method as one screw in the wrong place causes all sorts of grief and your car wont like it either lol.

The filter has no service schedule although part number if you have deep pockets is WFL 000090

I agree with you. The data sheet ought to be updated to cover the orange clip fix. If anyone's doing the modification soon maybe they'll take some pics and such?

Do you think it is the most common reason because my v6 failed to start last night and i could hear the fuel pump buzz and when i undid the pressure valve under the bonnet no fuel squirted out - some came out of the return but there is no fuel delivery?

Definitely first place to look with those symptoms. Don't do the self tapping screw mod get the proper retaining clip WJC000230
Plent of info on here as well as the How To document.

Have a look here as well.

Thanks. I was going to book it in to Epsom Rover but it doesn't look like a bad job. I might have a go myself. I'll have to see how difficult it is to tap the cap off without making the gizmo?

If you are signed in here you are signed in on the club site as well (you couldn't get to the page if not signed in). When you click on a pdf it is downloaded to your PC they do not open in your browser.
If you are still having trouble let me know which you want and I will email them to you..
If you supply your address.
