Default Daytime running lights

A great many cars now have daytime running lights as standard, I have two queries,
1) if aftermarket lights are fitted where on the car should they go? The design of the Rover 75 is not such that one can just slap a couple of lights on the front. 2) the alternative, I have considered, is to fit them in place of the front fog lamps (or even used the fog lamps themselves). Fog is something pretty rare here in New Zealand. Has anyone tried either of these suggestions and if so which one was successful?
