Very interesting.

Playing “what if” is fun given all the opportunities. Forgive the divergence - but years before Triumph Motorcycles we’re talking to Yamaha about their beautiful 650 twin engine to replace the aging Triumph unit.

The Yamaha 650 had an awful frame - felt like there was a hinge in it. Putting the Yamaha unit in a Featherbed frame would have been an inspired move.

But alas it never happened.

Number 9 rules!
For the others I`m glad that the manufacturer was bankrupt.

Hi DD, wasn't the feather bed frame made by Norton hence the Triton's? I knew Simon Goodman son of Peter Goodman director of Velocette, I'm sure they made some Manx Norton frames..

You would think that today's MG would make the GT as the new replacement for the TF, but would they stick with using the KV6 engine as suggested?

I think that the development MG TF 200HP Hybrid car would have been worth a mention.

Way ahead of it's time back in those days.

There was talk of a hybid MG TF back in 2003 I never knew that Bob.

Rover was full of so many innovative ideas, how on earth did the company go bust?

Apologies - a senior moment struck! It should have read Norton - not Triumph. The XS650 twin was hoped to be a contender for the Comando replacement that was so desperately needed.

If you haven't read it, this is quite a good book.
