Cutting out
Hi , I have now got a problem with the MG diesel cutting out whilst driving down the road. I think there must be a problem in the relay box under the bonnet because once the car has cut out, I can put my hand under the relay box & push the wires upwards & the car will restart again. If i do not push them up the car will not start. I can sometimes fiddle with relay that feeds the ECU & again, it will start. Anybody have any ideas on solving this issue? is there a corrosion issue in the wiring connectors perhaps?

It is not that uncommon, best thing to do is to undo the underbonnet fuse box ( 1x10 mm bolt and two screws after disconnecting the battery).
Remove the plastic shroud below the fusebox that surrounds the wiring by unclipping it at the front. Tilt the fusebox over towards the drivers side, then starting at the top disconnect the connectors by pressing the retaining tabs. Work your way down until all the connectors have been unclipped, then starting at the bottom connect and disconnect each one a couple of times. This should clean up the contacts. Don't worry the connectors are keyed so will only fit in their designated places Refit the plastic shroud then reattach the fusebox with the bolt and screws. Reconnect the battery and all should hopefully be ok. Russ

Thank you.
I will try this after the weekend as working nights at the moment. I will try to remember to post an update a little while after doing the job just to make sure it works before I reply. Regards, Wayne. |

I did as Russ suggested the following day & the car hasn't cut out since. Thank you Russ, for the advice.
