Default Rover 75 V Mclaren F1

So today I was out and about in the '75, driving down some nice country roads in full pipe & slippers mode, when I find myself being held up by a Mclaren F1 of all things.

A nice clear road with 50 MPH limit and he was pootling along at 30. Would have loved to have overtaken him, I could have offered him one of my Werthers Originals as I slowly wafted by, but sadly it just wasn't safe (too many blind corners) .

So now it's official: The Rover 75 - faster by far than a Mclaren F1 .

Indeed. As nice as the Mclaren was, it would have looked even better if I could have seen it via my rear view mirror .

He was probably blinded by the light reflecting off of your car.

Probably looking in the mirror thinking "I wish I had one of those rather than this uncomfortable thing"

Once did 190mph at Bruntingthorpe in a Mclaren.....but as a passenger. Jonathan Palmer at the wheel.

I'm sure he said something about the car having much in common with the 75...perhaps the cupholder?

I believe they were designed by Peter Stevens who was responsible for the "Z" cars and facelift '75.

Many moons ago my wife and I were travelling up to Norfolk when we spotted a Maserati on the inside lane of the motorway doing about 50mph, 'go on' I said ... have him! so she pulled out to overtake gave it some wellie and left it for dead.
When we were level with him we saw he was on a space saver so couldn't go any faster! it looked really weird tucked all the way in the huge Maserati wheel arch, and we just couldn't resist a cheaky 'beep beep' as we sailed past.
The driver was really stony faced and the passenger even less impressed,
and to add insult to injury... we were in my son's Rover 100! haha, can you imagine just how many stories were told that day.
