Default A11 red lodge 1st June

Flashed onto the A11 by a kind soul in a grey ZT.

I used to love the all-night cafe at Red Lodge. Excellent home-cooked food. Then it changed hands & we paid a visit on the way to Norwich & my favourite cottage pie was replaced by a plateful of ready made bright orange slop that l couldn't bring myself to eat.
Haven't been back since & not only because it's not open 24/7 now.

I have family in Newmarket and often attend the Red Lodge Cafe for a great breakfast. The 1940's decor brings back some memories.

Certainly changed since then, would not stop there given the choice, and the new houses springing up around the lorry park are campaigning to close the place, a shame as it's the last proper transport cafe on the A11. Forwentways may still be open for cars but the big uns are banned.

Par for the course. Move next to an operating business you don't like that has existed for years & immediately attempt to close it down.

That and drivers not using the cafes anymore not making it viable, my personal favourite cafe The Gatwick on the A17 nr Heckington is up for sale. Probably won't be kept at the same level of cleanliness or value (cup of tea 70p decent full English £5) with the new owner. On the bright side it might reduce my waistline a few inches.

Is that the big one with the tank outside & the selection of bric-a-brac for sale. We went in that one last year on our tour round the east coast. Very impressive if so or indeed, if not. I know there are a few cafes up that way, it's a shame to lose them.

I think the one you mention is at Holbech on the opposite side of the road isThe Farm cafe, they are owned by two brothers as the story goes they didn't get along and tried to out do each other.
The Gatwick is set back from the road in a large layby easy to miss I would imagine.
