Default CDTI Crankshaft pulley, woodruff key ???

Hi all,

Does the crankshaft pulley on the CDTI slot over a woodruff key ? or can it be tightened up in any position ?

I ask because I just got a call from my brother who is changing one. There is no key but there is a slot on the crank and a notch on the pulley.

Thanks

Pete.

The slot on the crank is a machining for a woodruff key but its for the timing chain sprocket further inward.
When I bought my car someone had obviously thought that the pulley should have had a key so they had made one which was fractionally too big causing the pulley not to seat correctly which took me a while to sort out.

I do ponder why the pulley didn't have a woodruff key it wouldn't have needed to be bolted up so tight.

100% NO woodruff key.

Cant speak for the v6, but this was/is a mistake in the EPC if they still list it.

It isn't a mistake to list it as there is a woodruff key fitted to the sprocket inboard of the crank pulley.

As you can see from Rimmers it is not drawn in the correct position:
