I'd be looking at trying a different LSM and seeing if your problem disappears

I have come across this before, on that one with the ignition on the tail lights went out but came back on as soon as the ignition was switched off again.

If you fancy a run over I can try a replacement to this if that's the problem.

Russ

Hi Russ, I will check out the easy bits that Rick, Mike and Ian have suggested this morning and will give you a shout later if it looks like the LSM. Thank you.

Okay, I have removed fuse 13(facelift) for the LSM and lights are still on, removed the LSM and the lights are still on. Checked wiring behind the headlights and all seems okay. Guess I'll have to remove the tail lamps and take out the rear panels and start checking for a short circuit.
Thanks everyone.

Rod removing fuse 13 is the same as it failing - have you checked it is good or swapped it with a same rated fuse?

Yes Mike, no different.
Could it have anything to do with tow bar wiring?

Depending on how it was wired up, especially if a bodge job then it could be, but if not then well worth a trip up to see Big Russ - he will sort it.

Thanks everyone for their input, I traced the problem to the BMW/Siemens trailer light control unit. The hole burnt in the back of it gave me a clue. lol. Looks like a ride over the scrappies tomorrow to get another.
